From the same collection as the 1868 Helena, Montana bank deposit slips came this interesting document - A stock certificate for the "Opera Building Company" in Salem, Oregon. My knowledge of Salem history is dubious, at best, but I never knew there was a Salem Opera Building (I live in nearby Independence, OR). A quick Google search turned up a link to the "Reed Opera House" built in 1869-1870. Since the signature on the stock certificate is signed by Mr C. A. Reed, I think I got the right place!

Cool score, Brian! That was, I think, the first theater to be built in Salem. Too bad it's not used for performances anymore, but I'm glad it's still standing.
