jameh, I disagree with kenvin504, but I'm not sure, my guess is this is type 11, and if the color is carmine (sorry, I cannot confirm either type 11 or carmine color from your image), then it would have more than minimal value. But not a complete booklet pane will affect the value, by how much I have no idea.

Do not take my word or kevin504's word for this, get it checked out by a knowledgeable and responsible collector of such material. I specialize in U.S. Revenues, but thought I'd take a whack at this one, an interesting study.

Cheers

Dave

stampmaster.....please speak for yourself.
This has minimal value. No one wants a part booklet pane.

Hi All

Some pretty stamps posted above, wish I had them!

But do others agree or disagree with me, if the original posting image is type 11, and if it is carmine, then what would the best guess as to the value be?

kevin504, sorry you took my comments the way you did, not intentional. But don't you think just in case it is type 11 and carmine the owner should have it checked out!

Cheers

Dave

This does appear to be a carmine type II (type 2 not 11) partial booklet pane. A closer look at any one of the stamps would help confirm that. If it is, the catalog value of a complete pane of 6 is $900 and $1500 if the stamps are never hinged.

If this is a rare type of partial pane, then there may be a few collectors who would like to try to get it as an example until they can afford a complete one. In that case the block could be worth as much as $50 or so, depending on the bidding that day. I would not break up the block until I had tried to sell it first.

Could we see a scan of the reverse and a close look at one of the stamps? Also, there appears to be something like a cancel or smudge on the upper left stamp. Can you confirm what that is? If you cannot tell us the condition of the gum, then we will need to see that reverse side scan.

essayk, I stand corrected, type 2 not type 11, but in my defense, my Scott Catalog these are listed as type 1 or type 11. Is the "1" a one, or an lower case l, which looks the same to me as a one (1). My old Scott Catalog does not refer to these as either type one (1) or type 2.

Guess I learn something every day.

I hope the owner takes care and has it checked out.

Cheers

Dave

The block is for sale on ebay. Item #321733282541.

I also agree that they are Type II and may be worth more than "minimal value".

@jameh, you're the ebay seller, correct? Both the item location, and your SCF profile city, are Desert Hot Springs, CA.

If one of the AEF Booklet Panes with one stamp missing, let just say 499F, would you still say "No one wants a part booklet pane"?

I for one would like to have such a part booklet pane, even with one stamp missing.

Cheers

jameh,

this is your block: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321733282541

From what survives this was from a plate position contiguous with and right of the center vertical guideline. Not enough remains to discriminate special positions except for position I. Although technically these stamps have never borne a hinge, the disturbance of the gum from when they were stuck to some stamps beneath them in a pile must certainly take them out of the NH category. Max cat for the original pane with this gum would have been $900 in my opinion.

Your present description mentions neither that this is a type II (verify that) nor that this is a position piece. These are factors that will enhance its desirability but are not readily apparent in its present presentation. I would not expect you to sell the piece as it is presently described, but I will say that if our identification of it is correct, your start price is also correct - provided you give an adequate description, which so far you have not.

Dave - relax. Nobody here is going to rub your face in an honest mistake. We all make them. We are here to help one another, not prove who's best. By the same token, kidding is not punishment, and so I ask, did you ever wonder what happened to types 2-10?

Silly me. I thought this would be a simple thing.
I'm not an avid stamp collector. I just had a bunch of stamps I've
thrown in a box over the last 50 years. I see now it's not. I stopped my ebay auction. So now when I go out today, it will be to a stamp shop. LOL

Thanks for all your help......

James
