A whole slew of really bad ones just showed up on ebay "from Latvia." Many 1869's, such as this one:

From the same seller...

I don't collect cancels, but if I did, I'd probably
jump on this one...

And have you reported any of them on Stamp Smarter?

People love to draw these black lines, but they have nothing to do with whether perfs are genuine or not. Pins get bent, pins get broken, and genuine perfs can be a bit off line and often are.

The lines clearly display the bent pins...

I have reported 6 items to Stamp Smarter from this seller, whose response is that she is highly offended and believes that buyers will see what's wrong with the stamps (a typical position taken by ethically challenged sellers who make believe that all bidders are able to correctly recognize every type of fault!). I would copy her exact response here but I'm unsure if that is allowed?

Well....this is either a very clever or very resourceful seller, and either way, I give her/him a lot of credit for "originality"! As a second response to my reports she now has changed all of those I reported by adding to the title "says Bill Weiss (Expert)"!

I'm not sure how I feel about this? I don't like the idea of a seller quoting me like this and have prevented lots of them from doing so, or attempting to do so, in the past. Why? Because first of all, what happens here if a buyer asks the seller to "show me Bill Weiss' opinion". Well, the seller has nothing to show them. Second, I do not like sellers quoting me unless they've paid for the opinion. But on the other hand, the work I do for Stamp Smarter (and in the past for ebay) has no compensation attached to it, so how can I forbid the seller from quoting me? Well....I can't. So therefore I think I best just leave it slide. Any thoughts/opinions?

Bill you can't have it both ways and still call the other guy "ethically challenged."

Why stir up the list with this when we have been down this road over and over without so much as a hint of a resolution.

On this subject you have become impossible to please, and I for one ask you please to keep it off this forum. Do I have to complain to the moderator?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Or, I could have said:

Okay, we've heard you Bill. Now it's time to give it a rest, old friend.

Which do you prefer?

Both are clear, but one raises hackles more than the other. Right?
There is a point here.

essayk,
While I see nothing wrong with you asking Bill to keep his opinion to himself, this would have been better in a private communication.

But as far as 'complaining to the moderator'; what forum rule or guideline states that a person must not repeat their opinion in their posts? I see a lot of topics which I feel are redundant, I simply move on. There is no browser or setting that requires us to read every post. If I feel that a particular poster is railing on or is tiresome then I just don't read his/her posts. I encourage you to do the same instead of potentially alienating folks.

Bill contributes (and has contributed) great value to not only this forum but to philately. He has the courage use his real name and not hide behind an anonymous veil. Due to this, he exposes himself to exploitation and retribution. I appreciate his candor and opinions and don't feel that anyone needs to censor them.

I don't want to get in the middle of a spat but wanted simply to say that I agree with the last paragraph of Don's post regarding Bill Weiss.

Yes Steve, it would have been far more preferable to say this, and say it privately. No-one gets sicker than me to read your constant domination of nearly every thread you join, often pontificating endlessley, but I've never called you out on it! Don's right - don't like it, don't read it.

And to Kevin - What's your point?
