Victory is at hand! And it's not we thought it would be!
I found your pic with a caption under it. Check this link:

http://thelouvertureproject.org/ima...ssalines.jpg

The caption states the pic. is Jean-Jacques Dessalines whom fought along side L'Ouverture, later becomes the first ruler of Haiti after declaring independence from France.
Here's a modern pic of the statue:

http://thelouvertureproject.org/ind...s_statue.jpg

I also found that the status was erected in 1892 at Cimetière Intérieur of Port-au-Prince and in 1936, it was moved to Pont-Rouge, where he was killed ambushed in 1806.

It is the statue, no question there, but it is no longer the same pedistal with the names shown. Could the statue have been intented to honor one hero then the other later? Maybe, Only if we could read it all clearly can we answer that question.

That was Fun,
Mike

here is a diffrent view of the statue, it appears that the pedestal was replaced or significantly changed.

OMG.... this turned out to be a treasure hunt of information.
Thanks to all who participated , definitely the same statue but different pedestal and location.

The Photo Postcard is a keeper eventhough it was clearly mistitled , you guys had alot of fun with the search and how the heck did you guys dicipher the names on the pedestal.

Really great work detectives

Your Welcome Jayelem,
It was a team effort.
Reading the some names was made possible because of your blow up of the area. Once that was done long stares at the image allowing the eyes to a just and then compare those names in history.

I was a fun side trip!

Maybe you'll come across something like that again!

Take Care!
Mike
