Hey, I made a small mistake. I gave you the wrong valve to Ellisville, MO.
$$$$ Est $100-$200 is what it may take to complete the set.

Thanks Mike. I don't think I'll be able to acquire that one, unless I find something really great to trade. LOL

I thought that I had acquired an impressive batch of precancels until I look at your list..Wow. I wish you the best of luck with your pursuit. If you want to e-mail your list, I'll print it out and add it to my "look-fors".

I don't really collect pre-cancels with any direction but, I was finding so many in accumulations of classic US stamps that I pursued them a little further. They also were treated with a certain level of disdain by most collectors and I thought they deserved better than that. I've been told I'm a little strange in my approach because I* have my precancels organized and displayed by the stamp on which they appear. It's an approach I think is pretty cool but, others think is quite strange. (But, what do they know).

Your method isn't that strange in the eyes of precancelists. It's a common practice to try to collect a certain stamp from as many cities as possible.
The most populer type, 1917 13cent Ben Franklin, is know as the Green Apple, there is a book dedicated to this stamp.

I have been setting aside the purple Lincoln stamp that is precanceled as the start of a separate collection. I also set aside any precancel that has a town name with Lincoln in it.

Warrehouse,
Thanks for the Lincoln precancel list. I'll have to see if they are also in my Lincoln ATA handbook. I know it has towns with Lincoln in the name, but I'm not sure about precancels.

I just updated my want list at the top post. I picked up most of them at the semi annual Illini Precancel Club meeting last week. Only 12 to go.

I love precancels. It's one of those things I got into after encountering so many in mixtures. I mount them set-wise by city. I collect both Canadian and American ones.

Canadian precancels are harder to get, but there are less of them, and the catalogue for them is less than 20 pages long.

WpgLwr,
Are there any Canadian towns with "Lincoln" in them? I have a feeling the US precnacel catalogs are much more than 20 pages.
