Hi Wert. Just to add another dimension to your original question. There is an East Orange in New South Wales, Australia. I've added its post code below just to keep in mind the philatelic focus. Now, speaking of places in the world to live............

East Orange Post Office
391 Summer St, Orange NSW 2800

This Orange is a separate town about 160 miles west of Sydney. It was associated with the gold rush in NSW in the 1850's. It's now big enough to have an "East" part. Cheers, Stephen

East Orange borders Newark. Not exactly the nicest town in NJ these days either...

I live up in Bergen County, basically in the extreme northeast corner of the state. Born and raised here ;)

Born in Newark, lived in Nutley a few years, but moved to and mainly grew up in the Boston MA area. Way back then, my parents thought nothing of shopping in Newark. Moved back to NJ three decades later to live in Montclair, then Somerset County. Didn't go anywhere near the Orange/East Orange/Irvington/Newark area for any reason except jury duty. West Orange wasn't too bad.

Born in Hackensack and lived in Maywood until I was 12. Lived in Basking Ridge while I was in high school and used to play some hockey in Orange NJ.

Oracle,
Sorry for the delay in responding...
I lived on Harrison Brook Drive, off of Lyons Road. Went to Annin Jr. HS and Ridge HS from 1970 thru 1976.

That's interesting - I almost bought a house on Harrison Brook Drive before landing on Mountain Road. We then bought a house on Penwood which is right around the corner from Harrison Brook. Kids went to Annin and Ridge during the late 90s and early 2000s. Loved living in Basking Ridge, but moved elsewhere when the kids went off to college and than ended up in the Southwest desert upon retirement.

Very nice story tikithindi. It's good to hear that you first got into this great hobby while living in the Garden State.

When my Dad changed jobs in 1968, the parents started looking for a new house in northern NJ. I remember many weekend trips through Montclair and the Oranges as we went north to house hunt. Ended up moving to Woodcliff Lake from Plainfield.

I'll add my three cents. I was born in Hackensack NJ, not far from there. I left when I was 5yrs old. Never realized how close I was to many places in New York. I often wonder if I was taken to some of the landmarks as a child. I am glad to be in the South now, I dont care for the hideous traffic and taxes as well.
