It is highly unlikely that a 19th century US stamp would have an airmail cancel.

I've seen them referred to as "football cancels". Here's one of my stamps that has one.

They are also called 'shoeprints' or 'ellipse'.

The 'Cancellations and Killers of the Banknote Era' has many examples.
