Hello. I don't think I have the temperament for the in-depth study! Where I get a decent range of copies of the same issue - eg all of those nineteenth century Austrian stamps with multiple perf variations - I work my way through them though. And it's satisfying to find that what looked like fifty of the same stamp actually includes lots of variations on a theme.

I fully agree that the key to all this is enjoyment, and wasting your time pleasantly, however that may be. I do like the vicarious trips around the world, however - why, I've taken in Syria, China and Tahiti already today!

Geoff

You are all extremely helpful and your answers give me much to ponder on.

@ GeoffHa, unfortunately being a new member here I can not email you. But would like to take you up on your offer, some how.

Just starting out myself. I have six stamps from 2014-15. Ordered three U.S. for $1. Not really any dealers or clubs around this area to pick any more up. Any ideas other than from catalogs? Hard for me to get stamps around here foreign and domestic.

Online sources may outnumber catalog sources now.Ebay being the largest and possibly most dangerous, but if you're careful, you will be ok. Should be easy to find a U.S. kiloware dealer to get that collection off to a good start.
But if you want to learn about the stamps themselves, specialize.

Stamps to go is close to ordering from a catalog, pick the stamp you want and buy it.

Thank you littleriverphil. I'll have to check that out. The $1 in stamps cost me a total of $5, because of the $4 shipping. They any cheaper on shipping?

It was Kenmore. Can't believe that is a flat fee.

something that you need to be careful of is shipping. They must have determined a flat rate to accommodate many size orders.

What kind of stamps are you looking to get Scott #'s to get started. I have dealt with ebay dealers who charge in the range of $1.00 or less. I just bought 2 plate blocks 838 and 936 for $.99 plus $.54 for shipping. Send me a pm if you wish and I can provide links for you. Where do you live if I might ask?
