We are all OCD about something. I confess I am about some things. One might think something is a major issue while others don't. I think this is all this thread boils down to.
My major issue here is... Just what the heck does "pedantic" mean?!

OCD
well, more precisely, it means being a fussily self-important stickler for unimportant details. Of course, sticklerarity is in the eyes of the beholder.
And so is unimportantness.
There, take that, Autocorrect. |

Ha! This thread got moved. Well, it served its purpose, I think. I now know how the process works at getting postings in the correct forum. |

Finally the answer!
Somebodies gloves ended up in the sock draw.
And worse still a pair of socks were pointing East to West & not North to South.Oh Dear!
We are looking at an excessive compulsive disorder. |

It applies not only to sock drawers but more centrally to fussiness about language or concepts--someone who officiously corrects someone on details of grammar or logic or arithmetic. But by extension, it can apply to stamp forums (a pedant would insist on stamp fora, since the Latin plural of forum is fora) or even to auto mechanics, although, as a card-carrying pedant, I think I need to insist that it really only extremely rarely gets applied to auto-mechanics, cooking, gardening, or housecleaning.
Of course those who accuse others of pedantry often turn around and get all pedantic on us without even noticing the hypocrisy. (To spell hypocrisy correctly one almost needs to be a confirmed and incorrigible pedant. Autocorrect is not a pedant, since it usually incorrectly corrects non-errors. True pedants usually correctly correct others but do so in a manner perceived to be intrusive or otherwise unwelcome.)
Being a pedant, I have just pedantically defined pedantry. |

Of course if one were a real pedantic they would complain that several topics were moved to the wrong forum. Cinderellas have their own forum , so no need to put them with world classics. But only pedantics would notice ... |

Quote: But only pedantics would notice .. Well, actually, only pedants would notice. The noun is pedant, the adjective is pedantic. Pedantish is a cinderella adjective. Pedants of the world unite, you've nothing to lose but the good will of everyone around you. |

And I suppose that we need a new thread, perhaps even a new forum: philatelic pedantry or pedantic philately or some such.
Except that about 90% of what we post on SCF would belong in that forum, which would suck all the oxygen out of SCF. |

I really don't mind when folks post an inappropriate topic in a Forum I read, what I worry about is when someone posts a topic I want to read in a Forum I don't read. So if someone sees a topic I want to read in a Forum I don't read I would appreciate it if you asked to have it moved to a topic I do read. Thanks! |

Someone has decided that what has been the norm for 6 year that I know of is now not acceptable.
Like 75% of the postings should not be in the main forum alone by this new craziness that I believe has started here.
Not a happy camper........ |
