As I've mentioned here before, I'm a relatively new APS member and I've signed up for a couple of the circuits. One area I collect is United Nations (NY, Geneva, & Vienna). I generally collect MNH singles and s/s.
I have received my first circuit and here's my question... I'm looking for your opinions about what you consider reasonable prices?
I know the line about "whatever one is willing to pay," and I understand there is no set rule of thumb.
But in general, for UN stamps (1970s - 2000) which aren't rare, and are relative easy to find, what percentage of catalog value do you think is reasonable?
Personally, the best way to purchased UN is to buy someone else's collection. Otherwise, 50-60% of Scott is good, I wouldn't pay more then 80% of Scott unless you need it to complete a set.
Yesterday, I got a chance to sit and look over the circuit. I bought several in the 50% range. And I bought a couple of souvenir sheets for about 65 or 70%. In my opinion, that was a little too much, but they had been eluding me for a while, so it was worth an extra coin or two to mark them off my wish list.
Kirk, this is only slightly related..but I have UN WFUNA envelopes painted by artists like Anthony Quinn..i might be able to spare one or two if you could use them .envelope is large like 9x12 so it would require a large envelope to ship...
That's VERY generous of you, but I don't collect covers. I feel guilty turning down such an offer, but I've got all I can handle just chasing singles Maybe someone else needs them more than I.
Kirk who knows ? have had them for years..hate to just use them to send stuff out..i know how it is..you are either a cover collector or you are not..at stamp shows I usually head right for the cover dealers !
