If a Sc 583 has a straight edge on the left or right side it must be from a 583 booklet pane. Yes or no.

I think they were made on a rotary press with the electric eye. If so there shouldn't be a straight edge.

Scott 583 is a perf 10 rotary press stamp. Booklet pane singles all have one or two straight edges. All of the sheet stamps are perforated on all four sides. Experimental use of the electric eye started in 1935, long after 583 was replaced with the perf 11 x 10 1/2 634 in December of 1926.

Most regular issue flat plate stamps of the period were printed on four hundred subject sheets divided into four panes of 100 along the vertical and horizontal center lines leaving two straight edge margins.

Hi, Bill... there appears to be some confusion with regards to how
someone interpreted your question...

In accordance with Clark's explanation, and contrary to the other
previous answers, the answer is YES...
