I've not soaked it off, so there is no argument about the bottom row being cut. It does lack perfs on the bottom. Also, I've never soaked a stamp off before (Gramps, Grandfather, and my mother, have done most of the work on the classics of the collection.) I don't want to start with a pair, and damage the perfs in between, and end up with two singles, instead of a pair.

I photoshopped out the 'cover' to make sure these weren't two singles perfectly lined up, one on top of another. I also did this, to remove the variable of optical illusion of what the color might be and what the alignment might look like.

I believe this is a 279Bg vertical pair. Comments on the color are expected, and welcomed. I did not adjust anything, this is how it looks straight from the scanner. I will say, it appears darker on a computer, than in person. Compared to the hundreds of other Washingtons I have, it's definitly pink, and not even close to carmine, no matter what the fade, or type carmine.

It's hard to tell what type, since the cork cancel is all over a couple of the main points of what a type IV is, but based on

1 - the lines not running through the triangles

2 - the 'less defined inner line of the left ornament'

3 - and the 'T' in the TWO

I believe it is a Type IV, and since it is pink, that would make it a 279Bg.

I am just now getting to the point of working on the pink stamps of the collection, so I would appreciate any conformation, or correction of what to look for. Thank you for looking, and commenting, if you've the time.

I dont think it came from a booklet, what does the cover look like? or is it just on paper. it looks overall weak in the middle of the stamps so getting it off still in a pair does have some risk.

It is just on paper, hence my writing cover as 'cover'. Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't sure what term to use.

These two stamps are nothing out of the ordinairy. They are common, and price at the lowest possible. There is nothing special about it being a vertical pair; the unperforated bottom means that the stamp came from the bottom of the sheet! By the way, I have an older Scott, what is a 279Bg? My specialized goes up to 279Bf!

g is the color pink, type IV, according to the 2015 Scott catalog I have, page 14.

I am looking for confirmation I have the right type and Scott number, as I am learning to identify these stamps. I am not concerned about value.

I have often wondered about the colors of all the 2 cent triangles because with so many made and they all been around over 100 years alot of the color variation might be due alot to fading etc. Past sorting them by triangle and watermark any big pile of stamps can vary alot in shades of the color.
