Well said, nr-notrare.
I'm wondering how many "forever" Liberty Bell stamps we're going to see. I think that is an ugly (definitive)stamp--IMHO.

Gussy:

My favourite U.S. stamp is the 13˘ Liberty Bell from the Americana Definitive Series.

I kind of like the new "Forever" stamp.

"Proclaim Liberty Throughout All Of The Land, And To The Inhabitants Thereof"

Here are some also rans for the worst commemoratives pre-1950.

Molly Pitcher #634 and the Hawaii #647&648, we were starting to like
Latin American nations that overprinted nearly everything.
Basically it seemed to be a lazy way to commemorate her & the Cook discovery.

The other 'lazy issue' Statehood issue for North & South Dakota, Montana & Washington #858. With all those other states getting their own stamp why shouldn't they.

Hey Hey, to each his own..i like overprints..like the Guatemalans..they finally figured they were always running out of 2 centavo stamps but never running out of 100 centavo stamps..so they made the 100 centavo stamps 2 centavo stamps with a overprint !!

Did not mean to shake your tree, Philb.
Usually the usage of overprints implies internal strife, commotion, civil war, lack of political stability, the hallmark calling card for Latin America.
No thanks to the US since it was US influence that led to many of their problems. But that's another story.

I have a stamp from Kampuchea in my topical collection, showing a swimmer at the olympic games. This stamp is one of the most horrible ones I have, because it doesn't look like he is swimming at all, it looks like he is drowning and screaming for help. The artwork is just unbelievably bad.

Another one I have somewhere is part of a commemorative series to pox vaccination. It has the photo of a pox infected child on it.

Wow, drudenfus, that stamp with the pox-infected child does take first place in bad taste.

I kinda of like the chicken stamp. I remember as a kid in the 1950's seeing that empty space in my album and wishing I could get one. I wanted that big, bold bird!

As for worst, ugliest, most subverted, in retrospect I'd vote for Scott 928, "Toward United Nations" which seems to have a new world odor about it. That's right, odor. It's not a typo.

It certainly does! I'm digging through my boxes of unsorted stamps right now, I know it's in there somewhere. I'll post a photo, if I find it.
