I know nothing about Switzerland postal but two things are interesting to me -- no stamp and no date in the postmark.

I agree with Stefani about the handwriting. Also, YMCA is interesting.

Switzerland, like Austria, and Germany, is one of the few countries
that used Razor cancels

However, if you are a collector of used stamps, the semi postal's,
issued in the 1940's and 50's catalog almost 10 x the value of Mnh

Phil:

OttawaMike picked up a nice post card for me a few weeks ago. It is postmarked 1907 at Limón, Costa Rica. It's pretty standard, black & white picture of palm trees, a little writing, etc.

I was sorting through my Costa Rica last night... and looked closely at the post card. The post card is from PANAMA and it was posted in Costa Rica, hence the Costa Rican stamps. The writer of the post card is an American, who reports that "the Canal should be finished in ten years". He's referring to the PANAMA CANAL.

What an interesting find, eh?

David

Very nice cover Phil

Most likely the absense of stamps is due to the fact that it was mailed on official business through Red Cross channels and 'officially', did not require stamps on the cover. The same procedure was true for military personel on active duty.

Hi notrare

I have a qyestion about the stamps you scanned: - Are they "Test" stamps from Switzerland for Swiss postal staff for training purposes??

Very interesting to say the least.

No. They are for testing a Rotary Press after Assembly, overhaul, replacement of parts or testing new material. They helped the staff at the printing works.

Here is something nice I got from Philb a while back.

I picked this cover up on ebay. GB 1948 Olympic illustrated FDC, with scarce Wembley and rings slogan and CDS postmark. It was a poor scan and I didn't really see the signatures.

Well, a nice surprise! It's autographed by Les McKay, the Australian flag-bearer at the Olympiad. Cost me A$3.10 including postage. The CV for the cover alone is £50
