Bill Weiss was concerned about passing on his knowledge and experience to others; he also wanted to attract younger hobbyists to philately. We often discussed on how to best pull the decades of experience out of his head and get it documented. Since he had seen so many US fakes and forgeries over years, he decided to try to capture this information in a document he named "FAKED AND ALTERED UNITED STATES STAMPS". In memory of Bill and as a contribution to the community, the document is now available on Stamp Smarter at link below. It is a good read for any hobbyist interested in US stamps.

I don't, beyond keeping what comes my way, collect much in the way of US stamps, but I found this fascinating. Thank you to you and to Bill.

Thanks for sharing the link Don. Bill always impressed me with the depth of his knowledge and how eager he was to share it. The last conversation I had with him, he was actually apologetic after explaining how the stamp I had was a counterfeit in great details and which I could understand. Afterwards, I really believed that he felt as bad as I did. The Philatelic world has certainly lost one of the best...but his contributions will live on in perpetuity.
