This is the coolest wallpaper ever! I found it at Big Lots, of all places, lol! For a dollar! Its covered in collages of Japanese postcards,(I think they are postcards) and the postcards have stamps on them. The name of the wallpaper is "Geisha Stamp Pack". I don't know if the stamps are actually real stamps or just made up pictures, but I'm going to try to find them later. I have quite a few Japan stamps, but I haven't catalouged them yet. I'm still in the "A"'s of my collection.

I love it! Its so cool-looking, very vintage. I would like it even if I didn't collect stamps. They only had one roll, though, I don't know what to do with it. I would love to put it in my 'sewing' room, but I don't know if I can do anything with one roll. Any ideas?

That's neat. The pictures of the stamps look like they could be copies of the real thing -- notice they're even postmarked.

here's an idea

figure out how much wall can be covered by the roll (3x5, 5x7, 6x10,etc) and center that on one wall of the room. Trim out the area with a wall trim so as to look like a picture frame. Apply the wallpaper inside the frame and you have instant wall art!

Ziggy has a good idea. You could also use it to make a cover for your own stamp album or a scrapbook project.

Stefanib,
I thought from your topic title you were using Japanese stamps as wallpaper. Some collectors call common, low value stamps "wallpaper"...

There are several conflicting anecdotes regarding the start of stamp collecting.

Ironically, one anecdote is that stamp collecting began with an advertisement by a young lady in 1840 (some say the advertisement came out in 1841) seeking postage stamps to wallpaper a room!

Another anecdote claims the advertisement was a hoax by Stanley Gibbons Ltd, a company many stamp collectors are now familiar with.

Another anecdote claims stamp collecting started in a Paris classroom by a teacher asking students to retain foreign stamps and match them to the countries on the map.

There's probably more, but I've never seen definitive documented historical evidence proving any of them... so the debate continues.

Personally, I like the wallpaper anecdote best.

The only one I've heard is the one about the Penny stamps. Your posts were so interesting, I googled and found all kinds of interesting stories about stamps being used as wallpaper!

Can you imagine wallpapering a room in stamps? Hmmmm...sounds doable, lol! I wonder how many it would take?

It would depend upon the size of the room and the size of the stamps...

I've heard/read the story about the wallpaper. The map story sounds rally plausible. Maybe we should contact the MythBusters!

I love Mythbusters! I watched the other day where a woman was supposed to have got pregnant by a bullet, that had hit a soldier first in his ....um...family jewels... and then hit her. It was in the JAMA and everything, lol! This supposedly happened in the Civil War, during a battle. I wound up not getting to watch the ending to see if it was true!

There is a school in the US that has an art class currently making a wall mural out of stamps. I haven't checked back with them about the status of the project. But the initial plans called for 1 million stamps to be used.

Not exactly "wallpaper", but interesting and innovative!

I once was short on the amount of wallpaper I needed for a room. I attached a horizontal molding around the room at approximately 34" above the floor. Some people call it a "chair rail". I then wallpapered from the chair rail up only. It really looked classy; sort of semi colonial.
