Thanks for the comeback.

Can anyone tell me how I can know if this is a revenue or some postmaster simply cancelling with a pen?

I don't think you can know definitively. I'm no expert and I haven't seen much, but I don't know if I've seen many dated postal cancels before. Others can weigh in with a better opinion. The cancels I've seen are just squiggles and x's.

This is most likely a revenue cancel, although it's impossible to be absolutely certain. I am about 95% sure though.
