Due to some suggestions, comments, support from my online poll I think this is relevant to expanding our group to an even more diverse segment of collectors. I see the potential to recruit a younger population segment, new collectors, previous collectors whom may want to come back to this wonderful hobby, etc.
This could be a redundant and moot point, because we already have an online presence with a stand alone website. However, so do other philatelic groups plus the addition of a Facebook group page, for example: American Philatelic Society and Local Post Collector Society.
Of course, there is the consideration of whom will setup and monitor the new page....
I am voting YES.
The final results are in 64% of voters said Yes.

I know it's an anonymous vote but here are my thoughts on Facebook , I belong to Facebook and have many family and friends in my social network , I do not have a nickname I use my real name and real profile picture which I don't use on SCF , I'm not sure if I would want to mix my stamp collecting hobby with my social network but I don't oppose making friends in the SCF and having them as Facebook friends .
I truly understand the concept of the idea and agree that it can be very resourcefull to have such a big network of stamp collectors but it probably be the same to make an I love SCF or stamp collecting fan club and just have a link for SCF and hope it serves SCF promoting the site.
I voted No but I might change my vote if you could give me a stronger argument how Facebook could help SCF ?

I agree with Jayelem. I am on Facebook as well but am not sure what the added value would be of a SCF Facebook group. Personally, I cannot take Facebook seriously. Funny quizes and nice to see what my friends are up to, but that's about it. I would not mind adding SCF people to my Facebook friends nevertheless.

I agree with Jaylem and Jan-Simon, there are all ready 3 large groups on Facebook and I am not sure what value Facebook would have to SCF, Also now that Facebook has changed its make up it is not as user friendly as it used to be. I too would add SCF friends to may Facebook friends, as it would be nice to keep track of what they are up to socially as well.
Perhaps we could ask the groups all ready on Facebook to include a link to SCF ? |

I definitely can see all your points regarding using a social network to promote the SCF, especially since it uses your real name & info. I am selective on what info I have available on my page, for instance I do not list my employer and only friends can see my page.
However, we here are also a social group and determine what content we provide and info we divulge.
I think that adding a link or widjit to the SCF on a profile page is a great idea. Anyone can add a weblink. I also wouldn't mind adding SCF members as my FB friends. I recently categorized my friends into "schoolmates", "family friends", "stamp collectors", and "route 66". This makes it easier to remember how I know someone instantly.
I do not mind intermingling my hobbies with my friends & family. For 1 most already know my interests and 2 maybe it will make them curious to start a stamp collection. If we don't talk about it and share, how are we going to help the next upcoming generations and pass along our knowledge & joy. |

I would definitely not recommend using Facebook if you're in the witness protection program. That could only cause problems! |

Facebook has been under siege for its recent update to the terms of service. Apparently the higher-ups have granted themselves rights to a user's content for any purpose they see fit, including advertising, even if the user deletes his or her content/account. News article: http://www.obsessable.com/news/2009...ent-forever/I voted "yes" as I would be interested in seeing SCF on a larger platform but in light of the above wouldn't necessarily be interested if that platform was Facebook. Perhaps a comparably large "faceless" community such as IMVU Messenger, Habbo Hotel, Activeworlds or similar teenage to adult networking service could be in order. |

I think it would be a good idea to have a stampcommunity.org page on Facebook. It would help get us more exposure and drive more interested people to the site. |

I think there are some mixed thoughts.I have been there for a while and I got to know alot of collectors Via Facebook. There are some good collectors. But the competition of collecting stamps might harm this hobby. You can experience it on facebook and specially when someone post stamps to trade. It will reduce fun and harmony between collectors. Also you can findout many stamp groups in facebook. Please don't make this just another group on facebook.

I was thinking of it being more so a link and advertisement to the SCF. It would and could not take the place of this great site. This could bring more exposure in a different venue to our group and it is free. Now we just need to get Bobby to do his webmaster magic on facebook.
Tom, thanks for agreeing with the proposal. I didn't want to step on the admin or any mod's feet. |

I understand many of those whom are concerned or unfamiliar of starting a Facebook page. As many persons had their concerns with site's like this or even computors so the same is happening with Facebook. The young or younger are the future of our hobby and this Facebook becomes another vehicle for us in our hopes to expand our great hobby.
Good Collecting! Mike
