Is this an EFO or would it classified differently The right triangle in the scan may appear to have very faint lines but as far as I can see it does not have any lines whatsoever. I checked it with a 30x magnifier and could not see any ink residue.

Marty, This variation is mentioned in my 1985 Scott's US Specialized I see it's not mentioned in my 2005. In the 1985 version it does not even have a letter assigned to the variation, but lists MNH at $25. & Used at $7.50, I think it should list between $10-15.
Nice
Mike

Mike, between catalog years, I believe it was reassigned to an unnumbered plate variety in 279B. You can check your 1985 US Specialized again to verify. The 2008 US Specialized has it at $6 for a used stamp.

Marty, I can't confirm based on resolution of scan, but I believe you have a 279B (Type IV), not a 267 (Type III).

Petrucellij, EFO is an acronym for error/freak/oddity. This particular stamp is a constant plate variety.

Thanks Mike. Wow that was fast! I am amazed at how much knowledge is on this forum.

petrucellij, efo stands for Error Freak Oddity which usually means the stamp has some feature that is uncommon when compared with a normal stamp. In my stamp, the uncommon feature is an all white upper triangle. It should have lines as does the left triangle.

I just ordered a #267 from a dealer on Stamps2go (MINTSTAMP). Checked his scam and it has the horizontals in the upper triangle. Why don't I ever run into these goodies?

You are right Kim, it is definitely a 279B. I checked the comparisons of type III with IV on 1847usa. Now I know it's true Scott number and which variety. Thanks
