Stamp collecting is a pursuit you can enjoy by yourself or with a group or club..thank goodness...i find a stamp, identify it, mount it in an album and as a stamp collector it gives me a pleasant positive feeling !!

When I am stressed I go to my collection and for a time forget about everything that is going on. Even if it is for a short time.

Just remember Phil, there's a reason they refer to their professions as a 'practice'.

Phil

I know just what you mean I can work for an hour identifying and mounting just one stamp out of a group and gives me satisfaction to see it in my album, even more so if it completes a set or page !

I agree.....

Finding the answer, solving the puzzle, learning something new.......is as satisfying as a good meal but lasts much longer.

I find stamp collecting to have some parallels (or is it correlations) with life in general. Like you guys; I see a hole in my album and search until I find the stamp to fill it. And we all know; not just any stamp, but the right stamp. And it does give me a good feeling when I put color in the "hole".

Though I am a fairly new colector I get all the same feelings about collecting as you older gents(). This time of year when I'm working crazy hours I really miss the peacefullness that stamp collecting brings.

Stamp collecting is a good place for an isolationist to hide away - and a good place for a talker to exist also. It just depends on how you want to approach collecting.

I will say, however, that the Internet has probably significantly reduced the personal interaction we used to have.

I restarted collecting stamps and mini sheets recently.I stopped it for a while more than 10 years because of studies.
This is a lot more than a hobby. This provides knowledge of each country and their native cultures.
We can build up strong relationships by collecting these wonderful stamps around the world.
