Point taken studebaker - I'm the bad boy. I acknowledge my mistake - my apologies - I was only attempting to find a solution to offer assistance, without anybody needing to relieve their mail address. Obviously there is quite a different security and protect-yourself culture from where I live to other places on this planet. I'm used to living in a totally secure place without any security fences and where I seldom bother to even lock my own front door - I can leave my car keys in the ignition over night without any concern whatsoever. So any kind of risk of abuse of a street address did not even cross half a neuron in this far-away-in-no-mans-land-brain. Security threats through the internet however is global, so it's also affecting our otherwise peaceful shores over here - hence my reasoning to keep the email secret. Anyway - I realize the reality is different around the globe and will respect the precautions in the forum rules. My bad. labprofess - I had already saved your address in order to have it available when returning home. I'll promise to treat it with confidentiality - you will have no trouble from this end, except maybe a pile of stamps that could potentially cause your dad to get worried |

Quote: Hope the drama will end with this.... ??? Our hobby is facing only one major challenge - that one being lack of recruitment among younger people. This issue has been debated it lots of other threads : What can we do to aid recruitment? This thread is all about what each of one of us actually can do. Here comes a new guy along, having a hard time to get started. We - as a community - should do what we can to help new-starters like him. If it is a drama - I really think it should be considered a positive one. The real drama would be if none of us would be actively contributing to helping new collectors. That's my 2c. Let's be positive to others KlausR - You are an example to follow |

Actually I would recommend that new people first become a member, spent a few weeks getting to know each other, ask questions and learn before starting to solicit donation and gifts.
The reason is simple, there are people who will lie and deceive to simply get 'things'. Establishing fake profiles (i.e. 'catfishing) is very common online and this forum is not immune to this. (Not saying that this happened in this case but it has happened before.) We work hard at verifying new folks but sometimes we may miss a few.
If someone is honestly interested in the hobby then there should also be some patience and understanding to not expect gifts to flow to them on day one. I too want to support younger hobbyists but there for good reasons to have some patience. I am also a cancer survivor so I understand things from that perspective too. Don
P.S. Blaamand, I also live in a part of the world where we don't lock door ands have a high level of trust between each other. But when to comes to the anonymous nature of the internet it is best to follow the 'trust but verify' approach. And in this case the 'verify' part is waiting a while until we get to know a person a bit better.
I started doing monthly contests, in which even new members can participate in, to help others. I thought this was a good way to promote the hobby and the community. |

51studebaker - As mentioned before - I perfectly understand and respect your professional and well argumented reasoning. I do agree in all of that. My comment above was not intended for you at all, but for another members unnecessary comment, which I feel does not bring anything positive for anyone, from whatever perspective one choose to look at it. Please accept my apology if you felt my last comment was aimed at you, it surely was not - excuse my shortcomings in nuances in the English language, which might lead to my comments being intercepted in the wrong way. Let there be no doubt - Your very positive contributions towards the collectors society is unrivaled to none, and I think everyone appreciates that BIG time! |

I am a real stamp collector
why would I waist time to make fake profile ask for donation of the most common stamps?
