Laurent,

the letter made a fast journey indeed. The mini album thing is called stock card, very handy item for temporary storage.

Allow me to give an advice: there are way too many stamps out there to collect them all, so maybe you should try and focus on one or more particular countries or stamp issuing entities which are of interest to you because of some personal relation/connection, or maybe there is a topic that you like such as football, farming, chocolate, frogs, etc. etc.

Have a look at

https://www.delcampe.net/en_GB/coll...bles/stamps/

to see what countries/entities and what topics exist.

Some countries are "closed" meaning that they stopped issuing stamps for some reason, for instance Mayotte with 172 issues between 1892 and 2011.

For many topics some countries flood the market with issues, so try to choose one where there are not too many stamps out there. Also nice are definitives (frankeerzegels) because in general they are not expensive and in many cases they show typical themes of the respective country.

Countries I collect are Germany, Netherlands, and some of the older German entities like Saar, French Occupation. Some of my topics are windmills, the postman, one-stamp-per-country.

Enjoy.

Klaus

Good point klausR

I think I will collect:
Germany - Normal stamps (Deutsche Bundespost) DDR stamps, Deutsches Reich stamps
Netherlands - Normal stamps
Italy - Normal stamps
Romania - Normal stamps
Tanzania - Normal stamps
__________ (this is another country whos name I forget - I will add this in here when I am at home

Then In the background I also got some spanish , Thailand , Chinese , Poland

I will sort out my order later today since it is the weekend. Will post it here when done

Most of the stamps I have are DDR, German normal stamps , Romania

P.S :
So I was able to buy another stamp book really cheap without my dad getting mad
Good news there was a bunch of Tanzania stamps in there with doubles I hope to be able to trade with people on here :)

Laurent,

just to give you an idea what ou are facing today:

Germany: 2024 issues, 3159 stamps
DDR: 1076 issues, 3123 stamps
German Empire: 229 issues, 910 stamps
Netherlands: 1008 issues, 3530 stamps
Italy: 2014 issues, 3934 stamps
Romania: 2074 issue, 7122 stamps
Tanzania: 744 issues, 5045 stamps

Quite a challenge! Tanzania is one of those countries that floods the market with issues (aimed at collectors of topicals) that have no relation whatsoever with the country itself.

Laurent,
A fat envelope is on it's way to your mailbox, stuffed with a mixture of WW different stamps. Some sorted on countries in glassine envelopes, others in a wild mix. Good luck in sorting. I sincerely hope your father is starting to look at this with different eyes. Happy stamping.
Cheers, Jon
