I am continuing my current interest in getting US classics that I did not previously own.

I got this for not much money, since it has a sealed tear on the left side, but, that empty spot is no longer empty. As always I appreciate comments and opinions from you great folks.

That is a nice stamp regardless. If anyone says anything about the tear tell them it is a much sought after platecrack.

Peter, I can say that I never thought of that:

Looks like in the "brown" family more than the "red brown". Difficult to tell on my computer. Not dark enough to be dark brown however (?)

Definitely one of those stamps that every US collector wants to have. I bought one several years ago even though I don't actively collect US stamps, just because I wanted to have one. Perhaps a 10-cent 1847 one of these days......I have one on cover in one of my exhibits but I actually don't have one for my album.

Looks ok to me! Better than a blank spot on page 1 of your album, too! Someday, I hope to have one.

Kelleher just sold a handful of 3 and 4 margin mostly sound examples at $100-150 each or so. I hope yours came in at a good deal less than $100.

Yeah, from a recent Linn's update of graded stamps it looked like #1's rated at least VF and less are selling for less. That is, prices for sound #1's appear to be falling if you have faith in Linn's.

Prices for almost everything seem to be falling. I got this for $75.
