Hello - I was persuaded to join the list by the Message to Lurkers.

I collected stamps as a youngster, got back into it for a few months while in college, now am starting again. I also inherited a collection from my grandma and mother - by collection I mean stamps stuffed in different containers like cigar and shoe boxes, old envelopes, and old glassines (or their precursor). I also have a 1973 Traveler Album.

I am now in the process of organizing this collection, and am looking forward to expanding what I have.

Charles.

Welcome to the nuthouse!

I think you'll find all the help you need here! Yours is a common story. I've been in and out of the stamp collecting game a number of times over the last 45 years or so.

Join in and have some fun with us!

Thanks. One reason I joined is because it looks like it is a friendly site. I have seen others not so friendly in my internet searches.

Welcome!

Sounds like we're about the same age - I have an early 1970's Citation album and a Statesman album for US stamps.

Do you have any collecting preferences?

I'm 42. I fall into the general collector category...I prefer postally used stamps both US and the world. I am not overly picky about the condition of the stamps within reason. I think I will try to completely fill my Traveler Album just to do it as it seems most abandon it for bigger albums as they get older. I just bought the Mystic Heirloom Albums for my US stamps. I am trying to decide how to pursue my world wide interests...I am looking at getting the World Olympian or maybe even the Scott Internationals, or at least some of them.

Charles.

Hello Charles....

Welcome to the club....I'm still fairly new here also, but I've been collecting since about 1958. Collecting the whole world can be a little overwhelming if you try to keep up with new material. You might want to narrow your focus to an area or time period. One collection I started a year or two ago is to try to find a cover from every stamp producing country, still have a lot to find but most are fairly easy to find, some are quite elusive. Of couse not just any cover will do, I'd like one with something interesting about it like lots of color with multiple stamps or special markings. My biggest problem has been trying to keep just one cover from anywhere, there are usually many that I like.

I could start posting some if anyone is interested.

Also, check my discussions for an offer of FREE stamps !

Tom

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I appreciate the offer of free stamps, but I would like to semi-organize what I have now before I actively acquire more. As for what kind of album, etc., and what I will collect, I will move that to a different board.

I like the pictures you folks post.

Charles.

Welcome Charles. I'm new here also. If this board is anything like its coin forum counterpart, than I'm sure it'll be awesome. My husband is a coin collector and has been a regular member of the coin community forum for a while now and it's helped him a lot with his collection.
