Greeting from Lynchburg Virginia. My name is Jim, I have been collecting for better than 50 years.I even had a online store selling stamps for years. I am a retire printer. My wife had been ill for many years and finally passed away in June 2015.

I am now getting back to my collection, and have found two stamps I need help identifying. One, I know is Russian, but cannot find in my Scott's Catalog. The other I have no clue. Looks like it might from a Soviet occupied area. Thanks for any assistance!

JimMac

Here is a good on-line stamp identifier resource for those hard to identify items.

I am guessing the first one is Latvia due to PYCCKAR NOYTA.

The second one might be Armenia based on Hammer & Sickle in top center. But the image is not large enough to clearly identify with these old eyes.

The first stamp is listed in Scott Classic Specialized Catalogue end of Latvia section issued under Russian occupation.

Scott states: "Eight typographed stamps of this design were prepared in 1919, but never placed in use. They exist both perforated and imperforate."

Reprints and counterfeits exist.

Second stamp is Armenia Sc 290 part of a set of 17. Not regularly issued and used according to Scott and counterfeits exist.

Thank you for all the fast replies! I started looking again after I posted my query, depending on Murphy's Law. Sure enough, I found the Latvia notation at the end of the Latvia listings.

I did look at Armenia, but did not spot my stamp there. I had cataract surgery in 2010, and chose long vision, so my close up vision leaves a lot to be desired. Thank you redwoodrandy! You save me a few hours of frustrating searches!
