I'm a retired journalism professor who's been collecting stamps off and on since about 1943. I've lived and taught in Egypt and done visiting teaching in Argentina, South Korea and the Bahamas. Originally from Utica, N.Y., I now live in Columbia, Md. For the past 20 or so years my stamp passion has been collecting stamps on which I can identify the place of cancel. At the momen,t my hoard is nearing 68,000 items. Never had more fun with any of the other types of collections I've done.

Good to see another (former) Utican here! Why don't you post some of your collection's highlights when you get a chance?

Good to see others passionate about postmarks ! I am getting more and more interested myself as well.

How do you organize your cancels? Maybe I suggest this thread? : https://goscf.com/t/52995

Thanks, RK1468, for your greeting to another former Utican. I grew up in Utica, attended Utica Free Academy and Utica College, but haven't lived there since 1965. It still has the warmest spot in my heart. I even have a little side-collection of stamps canceled and precanceled in Utica!
My collecting of stamps on which I can read the place of cancel has led me to an interesting fact -- there have been Utica post offices in 18 of the United States!
