For some months I have been receiving Linn's Stamp Newsletter to the inbox of an email address I rarely use. Once a month it arrived until recently, then once a week. I had a quick look at this newsletter on occasion but did not pay too much attention......until the last one.

The announcement of the death of Karl Malden quickly got my attention as I had not heard of this sad event. He was a very wonderful actor and the news saddened me somewhat. I was quite surprised to learn that he was highly revered in the US stamp community and that he was a long time collector.

But what surprised me even more was what happened next.
By a fluke I clicked on the newsletter, you could say my finger slipped, and HEY PRESTO! the newsletter became Linns Stamp weekly !!. The whole paper, free in the inbox of an email I hardly open. So I checked back and I found 5 further copies in their entirety, since June 17 I have been receiving them.

When I found the first copy, I checked closer and read that "your subscription to Linn's stamp News is sponsored by Amos Advantage". It went on to say that they were suppliers of Collectors accessories.

I have never heard of them and how did I manage to get a digital subscription in this way??
Could it be only temporary as a Advertisement??

It seems strange to me.
Anyway, it is a good read so now I have some catching up to do.

Has anyone else had this good fortune ??
Or know about Amos Advantage??

I know of Amos Advantage because of my subscribtion to Linns. I believe they are the parent company or subsidary of each other. They are also related to Scott Stamp Monthly and a few other magazines. As for why you are receiving it without you soliciting I do not know....and I won't tell.

Amos is the parent company to Linn's & Scott's.

Amos (like other publishing companies) will occasionally provide free samples/subscriptions to select individuals. Sometimes it's 1 sample issue, sometimes a shortened subscription, sometimes a full subscription.

They've been pushing their digital Linn's recently, and it appears that part of the push involves sample subscriptions through a subset of the newsletters. Congratulations.

I've had my free digital Linn's subscription for well over a year, and they haven't asked me to renew... yet.

I buy the majority of my supplies from Amos Advantage. Their prices are very competitive, they offer good service and I've never had a complaint. I'm glad you've found them!

P.S. I buy the rest of my supplies from Subway.

I am giving this thread a 'bump' for a number of reasons.
I recently read about the merger of Linns and SSM [mentioned elsewhere earlier this week on another thread] and was quite surprised that SSM is folding having such a worldwide reputation.

My subscription to Linns is still ongoing, over 1 year now and still no clue as to how it happened. I hope I will get the special edition next week !

But I have discovered something else today which led me to writing here on this long-dormant topic.
I never took any notice of the advertisements for other magazines when I clicked into Linns. Namely SSM, Scott Stamp Values, Stamp Product Guide and 3 Coin Magazines. This morning whilst reading Linns, I discovered I could also read the other magazines !
So I went back and checked other copies from the last year....and yes, I could open them too

So, for 16 months, I have had a free subscription to 7 magazines and still don't know how it came about !

Amazing. No complaining from this end. I have just phoned my boss to ask him for two weeks off so I can do some reading !

Paypal, on the other hand, is another story

Londonbus1...full of magazines

I had a subscription to the print version and just assumed they kept sending me the digital version when my subscription expired. Since it's unusable with a dial-up connection, I just delete it.

It really cost's them nothing or near nothing to do, and they are probably picking up some extra revenue by doing it... just like spamming.

I wonder if they include these digital, give-away subscriptions on their advertising rate card.

I, too, was pleasantly surprised when I realized I had access to SSM and its archives (as well as the other magazines. The stamp values magazine is very handy). I subscribed to the digital version of Linn's and really enjoy reading it each week. I think that even if I did not get it free, $9.95 USD is a very reasonable cost of a yearly subscription.

LB, I am jealous of your freebie, though.
