A stamp honoring USA Franklin Roosevelt in the Philippines, year 1958.

This is one of my favorite stamps, I was wondering if others also still keep worn and torn stamps, for me it has a special appeal, much like it's gone through a war or something and still survived!

do you still keep that kind-of-a special stamp?

I don't care what condition a stamp is in, if I don't have it, then I keep it.

Hi Nic,

Is this the stamp where it shows him with an extra finger on one hand?

Greetings oldtriguy1960!
you got me there, totally didn't know about that, will use magnifier and take a look, the stamp is very small, three-fourths of an inch width and half an inch height.
will get back if it is shown...

I started giving my damaged duplicates to my son, whom will be 3 next month. He glues them into a throw away homemade stamp album someone gave me last year. He will ask me occasionally if I have any new stamps for him or if we are going to the post office. He also likes to check our mailbox.

Personally, I'm a pretty mercenary stamp collector. If a badly damaged stamp doesn't have great sentimental value, I cull it - read that throw it away.

That's just me, though. There are no rules. Here's the set:

Hey Nic. Nice stamp there and I must tell you I agree with you thoughts of what the stamp has been thru to wind up in that condition. You never know it could be from just rough handling or there may actually be a good story behind it, the fun part is we we may never know and it always allows us to use our imagination. Here are two of my favorite pieces from my collection that are a bit worse for wear.

Forgive me folks I have forgotten who gave these to me but once again Thank you very much I have had a blast having them in my collection and showing to folks around town.

I live in Dutchess County..15 minutes North of Roosevelts mothers estate..she ruled the roost...Franklin was not popular in these parts..he wouldnt have gotten elected dog catcher in his own town !!

Even his stamp collection was a farce..even though foreign digniteries sent him stamps of their countries..he had no real rare stamps..the only reason his collection realized money at auction was that he was the "owner" !

Thanks guys!

That stamp is my favorite not because of Franklin as the subject, but because of it's really sorry state! a survivor, wow!

Laswabbie thanks for the pic! I am floored by your three in a row set! What can I say but admire my favorite ressurected! Hey maybe you can confirm Triguys' querry on that extra finger, couldn't see it clearly.

Thanks Philb, didn't know Franklin was a stamp collector! Thanks CimarronWarrior! Great looking survivors you've got there!

This forum is a great with you guys on board!

Anyone out there with survivors, torn, frazzled, worn out and just about to loose it's color, send a pic before you retire or trash them!
Thanks!

Thanks philb! took me awhile to assimilate those four stamps, those facial features remind me of my college days, when we were studying 1944 history and all those things that came with it.

Hi All,

Turns out the six finger Roosevelt (5 fingers + thumb)is from Monaco, but looks similar to the one in this post...
