Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for what I am sure will be a long list of "newbie" questions. I recently inherited a rather large and quite old collection of stamps and it is very overwhelming. I collected, to the best of my ability as a kid, my older brother got me into it and recently picked up the hobby again when this collection was give to me... It contains stamps going back to the turn of the century and from almost every country in the world, a bunch which are no longer countries. I have begun the painstaking process of trying to organize, catalogue and protect this collection and was hoping for some advise on what to look for and any helpful suggestions as to where to go from here... I was also wondering if anyone knew of any good international forums in the hopes of generating some "pen pals" in other countries that I could send back and forth and hence grow my collection. Brian,
Welcome back to collecting. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, also use the search function for any previous topic threads that may help you. If you don't have any catalogs try your local library which should have a set in their reference section. After you get 50 posts under your belt you are welcome to buy/sell/trade. There are members here from nearly every continent and level of collecting knowledge. |

There is a 'specialty' society for worldwide collectors with real good trading network with international connections and many trading choices arrangements that you might want to check out. It is the International Society of Worldwide Collectors (ISWSC) and they do have a website you can check out for more information. |

Hi Brian,
Welcome! I am a newbie myself. One of the things I would recommend are stamp tongs if you don't already have it. I was was using cheap plastic tweezers that I found from a first-aid kit at first. It was a little uncomfortable to use, but I figured what's the difference? After reading about the importance of proper stamp tongs, I caved into buying one and used it for the first time this week. The difference in handling is like night and day! |

Welcome Brian You have found a great site here. I came about a year and a half ago and have made many freinds and trading partners since. I have learned a wealth of informantion and would have not even scratched the surface if it wasn't for this forum. Dianne |
