Inherited A Stamp Collection.

Hello!

I inherited a sizable stamp collection from my grandfather. I know next to nothing about stamp collecting and the collection is sitting in a temperature-controlled storage facility. I'd like to get more information about various bits and pieces of the collection and see if anyone is interested in them.

To be honest, I don't have the time to collect—I have a son now and I'm exceedingly busy. It would be fantastic if the stamps could go to people who will really cherish them. I'd like to post photos and info here in the coming months to determine if any part of the collection is desirable.

You have found a great site for stamp collecting here. Do you think your son might become interested in stamps someday? As he gets older he may appreciate having something from his great grandfather.

Don't make any rash decisions. If you are busy with life at the moment, put them aside and wait a few years. Most of us have come back to stamp collecting after not touching them for years. It would be very disappointing to realise one day that you should have kept them for yourself or your Son.

I also would suggest that you not may any hasty disposal decision. I would recommend that you store them safely for a nu8mber of years and see how you feel once your son and more? or yourself matures some.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I will definitely think about keeping the stamps around. But right now we're paying for a storage facility and I'd much rather put the money in my son's college fund.

Oh, and there are about a dozen boxes of stamps and stamp-related stuff. I'd like to pair it down to one box of the stamps that I know were really special to my grandfather. I'd like the rest to go to other collectors who want them.

welcome wow you sound exactly like I did 8 months ago but these guys and a few gals have taught me so much that now I consider myself a collector I was given my grandfathers collection also.I put it away in my garage for a couple years then I thought i,d just try and find someone who would enjoy them also,and I did "ME" and a few others have enjoyed some but its a very interesting hobby I've so enjoyed it,with all these people on this forum to keep me interested and some of the fun also.I find myself on here several times a day.just hang out post some pictures of your collection and hear what feed back you get and you just never know

Don't be to hasty with those boxes of stamps Dustin as you don't know what treasures are in them.

Hey Dustin,

I'm happy to hear that you do intend to keep some after all. Make the box you keep a big box!
Once you get some knowlege about stamps you'll have a better idea of what you should keep. As you learn more about the stamps, you'll gain a better appreciation for some of them.

I collected stamps when I was a kid. My grandmother bought me a set every year. I did not keep it up after I turned 15 or so. I lost the collection I had over the years and now after 20 years I started up again. Now I wish I would have kept the collection I started way back when.
