Can you imagine $28,000 in sales from ebay in two weeks from stamps. Kind of putting oneself in the limelight.

With modern computer/printing technology, there are some really really good modern counterfeits now.

Almost all the modern counterfeits miss one important detail -- they aren't tagged, so they will not luminesce at the proper wavelength under UV light.

When people start using them, the mail gets kicked out by the automated sorting equipment. Sometimes the "human" sorter just pen cancels it when it gets kicked out. But when enough of these get kicked out, the postmaster checks into it... eventually to the source.

Hi Austin....

Most defins that are counterfeited lack the micro-printed date and/or USPS.

have heard that some collectors specialize in collecting counterfeit stamps..is this true?

Yes, that is true; but not many. In fact, a couple of the more famous forgeries will actually sell at an auction at a higher price than the genuine forgeries. In particular, some of the Sperati forgeries are highly sought after!
