There is a comprehensive list of bureau precancels in the Precancel Catalogue. There are too many local precancels to list.

You're very welcome. One of these days, I'll go back to collecting pre-cancels and actually use my list! I've already corrected some typos/errors. If anyone sees anything incorrect, please do not hesitate to email me. I'm trying to do this while working and eating, so it's a little slow going. Thanks for everybody's patience. WpgLwr, The Eveleth, MN in the Rotnem's Standard Precancel Catalog, 1928, the stamp was listed at $1.50. They can be found normal, (city on top), up (city on the left side reading up) & down (city on the right side reading down)
The Virginia, MN only .18 each. This one can be found normal, inverted, (overprint upside down), normal with double overprint, inverted with double overprint, up, down & finally a double overprint with one up & the otherside down.

Just checked on www.precancels.com Site for Precancel Stamp Society On the "Getting Started" tab, an article says that there are about 9,500 bureau precancels.  But for locals there are 1,500,000 - 2,000,000.   Locals are also known as Town & Type or City & Type. And I understood this number is just for US precancels. Marty |

Mike has just shown why some precancel collectors buy them in lots of 10,000s. I remember one collector who use to sell them in lots of 30,000+. |
