sonalee I cannot tell you how much I wish there was a SCF like forum that I could have consulted when I started collecting. Stay with us! Stamp collecting is: enjoyable; interesting, educating; colorful; friendship building; satisfying as well as lots more "ing" words. Plus, it is just plain fun. Marty |

Quote: What do you recommend for Mint Sheets ? are these glassines for sheets ? Yes there are glassines for mint sheets. But given the age of the mint sheets you have purchases, I would really recommend buying a nice double-sided mint sheet album, especially if you plan on buying more mint sheets. I haven't bought one in years, but you should be able to get a very nice one for under $40 that will hold 100 sheets. I used to buy them for $25, but that was a while back and I assumed they have gone up in the past 10+ years. I actually use them to put my plate block collection as well. There is a reason. I specialize in tagging, and the material used in the those SuperSafe-type mint sheet albums is UV/tagging transparent, so I can examine the tagging without removing anything! I'm tied down, but I can check out some current mint sheet prices for you after the weekend. Or you can visit Subway Stamps (google it) and get a benchmark price. You don't have to get SuperSafe brand. The G&Ks are almost equivalent. |

I checked. The lowest price offered for mint sheet album is $64 (Subway stamps)(without shipping). It is like buying a 20K helmet for a 10K Harley !
You have to help me find reasonably priced glassines and min sheet envelop/album. Subway stamps glassins are expensive too. |

Subway is a great reference supply site, as they have the largest supply selection in the US. I also use them as a benchmark price -- as in, if you are higher than Subway, you are beyond ridiculous.
HOWEVER, Subway often has great pricing when they have a sale, and they have a sale every week. This is where a Linn's subscription really pays off, as they advertise in Linn's every week.
I'm not promoting Subway, as I have my issues with them.
However, you can get some great deals if you know where to look. I'm a little tied down right now and I don't have broadband access, but I took a quick peek for you and I find that they are closing out their old style G&K mint sheet albums (I believe these are the exact same as the last batch I bought from them about 5 years ago) for $28. That includes binder and what I believe are 50 double-sided pages. I have not verified that they are the same as the ones I currently have, so don't hold me to that just yet! I use these types of "loose-leaf" albums also because you want to minimize handling of the older sheets (3c era and earlier), as the perfs tend to be weak and easily separated/damaged.
Your other alternative is a glassine-style album. These can be purchased bound. I've never bought one and don't use them, but I would guess the price for a 24-sheet album should be under $10. Some of the dealer/sellers here would know better. |

I bought 10 sets of (778 + 1075 + 1311) for just $3.00 from ebay. As per KHJ, this should have been 10*(1+1+0.1) = $21. Paid only 15% of the Retail ! |

That's actually a FANTASTIC deal. In fact, slightly better than wholesale!
To put it into even better perspective, you actually got the stamps for below face value! All it takes is a little shopping!
Congratulations! |

Don't mean to engage in heresy, but Mystic has a mint sheet album for 49 and change. |

How does this Mystic stamp company survive especially when most of the online retailers and ebay is selling 25% of their price ? |

sonalee! I was thinking exactly the same thing about mystic! I have some friends though that have been faithfully buying their stuff for years even after I told, showed cost difference and basically begged them to NOT shop there but that's probably how they survive. Sad. They predate on the elderly and new collectors mostly. again a big |

Google Subway Stamp Store. They sell all kinds of supplies, and I don't think their prices are unfair.
Sorry. I guess I missed some of the replie before I suggested Subway. |
