i picked this up at the Albany show..its a piece from our history..obviously its from army recruiters..but theres nothing on the back of the card...possibly it had a reply card attached..its not obvious to me where..seems strange they did not write anything on the back..mabe its just a reminder to the guy..help anyone ???

Maybe the recipient took the attached card....or was it the Naval Censor.

Looks to me that it's an Army postcard used by someone in the Navy. With the U.S.S. Louisville written in the return address portion of the card. It also has been cancelled by the Navy and censored by the Navy.

First of all, who is Chester S. Knowlson? Note that he has his own rubber stamp for his name and address. Could it be that he got ahold of a bunch of official postcards, mailed them out under cover with a request that the Postal Corps on each ship send them back to him so he could have a collection of these?

My guess is that it was a collector trying to get a ship postmark.
