If you had to nominate one stamp issued between 1940-60 as the most beautiful one, which one that be ?

Results as of 10/01 :

#951 - 1947 U.S. Frigate Constitution

#956 - Four Chaplains

#984 - The 1949 Annapolis Tercentary issue

#999 - Nevada Centennial Issue of 1951

#1061 - Kansas Territory Issue

#1075 - 1956 3c & 8c FIPEX, SS

#1116 - The "Statue of A. Lincoln".

#1141 - The 1960 Jefferson Credo, Scott #1141 because of the quote.

#1175 - 1960 Issue of the 50th Anniversary honouring the Boy Scouts of America.

My personal favorite for that era would have to be the Nevada Centennial Issue of 1951, Scott #999. I like the warm feeling of comfort it leaves me with.

I was expecting more responses but it seems modern stamps are not that beautiful.

[EDIT: Oh, sorry, I didn't notice at first that this thread was in the US category. So this is off-the beaten path.]

I think I made this reply in a thread asking about our most valuable stamp, but the answer is the same...

China 1218, issued in 1959.

Not because it's orange (my favorite color), but because it is one of the first stamps my Mom gave to me when she encouraged me to start collecting.

Sometimes, there's more to the stamp than just a nice design or topic.

I'm not sure how many different stamp series there were during this time, but the US issued about 300 stamps that were valid for postage from 1940-1959 inclusive.

For US stamps during that time, it's a toss-up between 948 and 1075. But when push comes to shove, I guess I pick 1075.
