One More Time...

I started collecting stamps in 1959 when I was in Jr High School. I was real serious about collecting for four or five years. Then high school, military, first wife and kid sort of made me drift away from the hobby. In 1976, I married a new wife who loved stamp collecting as much as I did. We were very involved in the hobby and spent a lot of money and time rebuilding my original collection. After a couple of years, hard times came along and we had to sacrifice our collection.

Over the last 30 years we talked about starting again many times. We are late in life parents. Our son got involved with collecting canceled foreign stamps and it wasn't long until we were back again, for good this time. My wife and I are primarily interested in mint US when available.

My wife and I have always considered stamps to be little pieces of art work. The value of stamps is only important now that we are starting over and have to buy what we once had. We had decided to collect stamps from 1948 to date, but that didn't last long. There are too many affordable stamps prior to 1948 that are gorgeous.

Anyway, this is a great forum. We have gotten some good information. I am sort of disappointed in the stamps we have today. They don't seem to be as quality as the older stamps. Thanks for letting us participate. Shalom to all.

I also think of stamps as pieces of art and are seldom concerned with value.
