Hi Folks......

Not much value but it helps to create a interesting diverse collection.

Scott #1895 large hole.......#1895a small hole.....small hole variety has a wider taggant rectangle and the spaces between the holes are wider.

Not the best samples but these are just foundlings from a mystery box.

Tom,

Yes I have an ultraviolet light source. Either it's not a very good one or I am not very good using it.

Hi Butch......

There are 2 common handheld types.....a longwave and a shortwave. Not all taggants react to both.

If you can't see most taggants on US defins, you should have both types of lamps. For this "Flag Over" series all show well with the shortwave lamp.

They may seem a little expensive but I've had mine well over 10 years and have only replaced the bulbs once. With good batteries I've never had any problems seeing a taggant on a stamp when used in a very dark room........you want a challenge ?? .......try getting photos working in the dark.

shortwave lamp. (L85)......about $30.00-40.00

longwave lamp. (L80)......about $15.00-20.00

Hi Butch.....

The website link doesn't work well but I just order over the phone....I'll email the number.

unless they have a new catalog that I haven't seen yet, they have the best price for these that I've seen anywhere....$11.96 & $26.21......with $4.80 shipping........they're in Oregon so you'd get them fairly quick if they have them in stock. Also, they always use real stamps to send out orders..

I've bought things from these folks for well over 15 years and have never had any problems.

Tom's right. That is an exceptionally good price, especially for the short-wave lamp (which is what you really need for most of the US stamps).

Butch, most common UV lamp sources are either not filtered or do not emit sufficiently in the wavelength of interest.

For most US luminescence, you want something that emits strongly in the 254nm range.

Tom,
I have all the varieties according to Scott specialized but do not have all the Plate numbers yet. I do not even have a list yet !!

But I am working on it. It's a great series...but I just love all the US Flag Defins, such an exciting challenge.
