Abutt before computers I used to find trading partners..mostly on the Linns Posthorn...computers do speed up the process !!

IMHO, I think it is the relative cost of the stamps you buy, how you care for them, the amount of time you spend on the hobby, and whether or not you hide the cost of the hobby from your wife/husband/significant other!

There are quite a few rich people who buy $100,000+ stamps for investment that are not collectors at all. There are youngsters that spend half or more of their $10 allowance on stamps that I would consider to be serious collectors.
