1940's Panama Canal Stamps

Here are two builders of the Panama Canal. Goethals was a chief designer and Williamson was an Engineer, I think. Can't find much on Williamson.

Very cool Inkman(or is it honestabe?). Welcome to the forum. As you can see, we are still trying to get this thing moving. Most of us will be transplants/visitors for right now from the Coin Community Forum next door.

This is one of the few Canal Zone stamps I have in my collection.



This is John F. Stevens, he was also an engineer on the Canal project.

US Possessions Canal Zone

Scott #117, 3c deep violet, Maj. Gen, George Washington Goethals, issued Aug. 15, 1934.
George Washington Goethals was a United States Army officer and civil engineer,
best known for his supervision of construction and the opening of the Panama Canal. He was the
First Governor of Panama Canal Zone (1914-16).

Scott #113, 30c brown black, Col. Sydney Bacon Williamson, issued April 15, 1940.
Virginia Military Institute has the following information:
Sydney Bacon Williamson VMI Class of 1884; Civil engineer;
Pacific Division engineer for Panama Canal construction, 1906-1914;
VMI has papers of Sydney B. Williamson, including extensive material,
1906-1914, documenting the construction of the Panama Canal and Williamson's other engineering projects
in South America (Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Peru) and the United States
(Virginia, Mississippi Valley, Alabama), and his service with the Interoceanic Canal Board
and the Goethals Memorial Committee.
