Hi I'm looking in the new Scott specialized and notice that for some of the very early stamps a canada cancellation can cause the price to jump a fair bit. Typically how late of a stamp will a canadian cancel be worthwhile?

I have a 26a with a nice canada cancel on it, but it doesn't list canada under the cancellations is why I ask..

Thanks.

Hello celebrindal.....

Welcome to the club.

Saw your question and checked a few sources and I haven't found any info about Canadian cancels on a #26a. If it were mine I'd hang on to it ......it sure seems like the sort of thing that would really appeal to collectors of cross border items and it could possibly have decent value....(not exceptional, but more than catalog).....could you post a picture ?

I'm not sure what a canadian specialized catalog would help with a US stamp?

As per the previous post here is the image.

The stamp itself isn't the best, very off center. But the cancel is quite nice and clear.

Thanks for posting the pic! Nice stamp. However, I do not believe that is a Canadian cancel. Sorry.

Could be a number of older US towns, such as Towanda, PA... But that's just a guess. I don't have an early Towanda postmark to compare it to.

You never made reference, in your first post, that it was a US stamp

Here's another town example -- Tonawanda, NY. Note, however, my pic shows a much later era postmark.

celebrindal......

Definately not Canada.....note the missing a after the n.......also, it would be a town/city cancel not a country.
