Splitting off from my U.S.Collecting and now going for an Australian collection. Decided on this country since I have a lot of friends down under and know quite a bit about the country and its forming over the years. Have set up two albums for them and have now about three or four hundred stamps being sorted. One thing that's very obvious is that the Australian stamps in general are very beautiful, colorful and graphic. Found a current Australian catalog on ebay and it's been a big help in the identification process. Also found a bunch of guys on the internet who produce album pages for many countries at a very reasonable rate. So, as the master said..."away we go!" Allan

Allan:
Good job with the Aussie stamps... many colourful and pretty ones. Will make a point to do Australia in my KGVI Reign sereis in the near future.
One thing to note about modern Australian stamps. The high-values for overseas rates are tough to come by for the Aussies, so save your traders and trade with them!

Australia is my favourite collection. There are a lot of great stamps. When you really get into it, you will have to look for things like sideways and inverted watermarks on the George and Roo stamps. Plus all of the little varieties. Lots of fun. Make sure if you need help with anything that you come here to ask. I finally got the help I needed for the "flying doctor" variety. When I was shown a photo of it, it was so easy to locate the dot, but until then, I couldn't find where it should be. I haven't found one yet on any of my own stamps, but at least I know where to look, thanks to great members. |

Indeed, I love Aussie stamps as well. I have a whole bunch to give out should you want some modern stamps (focusing mine on pre-1960). |

Right now I'm going to concentrate on 1990 and later. Having a big problem with trying to get a current catalog. Checked a link one my Perth buddies sent me, and the guy wants $34.00A just to send from Oz. Not fair! |

I had the same problem getting a catalogue when I recently started collecting US, I could only get a Scott Specialized from the US, and most of the sellers wanted US$50 postage! I finally found one offering US$17 postage. Which catalogue are you after? Maybe it would be cheaper for one of us to send it.
Do you collect used or mint? Email me your address and I'll be happy to send you some.

Aussie stamps are definitely interesting. Look what they've got to work with. A colony of convicts, giant rats that jump instead of run, more deadly snakes than a camel has fleas (and camels too), and some of the sexiest women in the world.
Oh, and their own chain of restaurants! |

Got the most terrific collection of Australians from our buddy,Tina, and am awaiting new album pages, and have a catalogue ordered by an Aussy friend from Melborne on its way. Because Tina's represent the largest majority of my stamps now, I'll be concentrating on the '50s and '60s.s Is this a fun hobby, or not? Allan |
