New To SCF

Hello-

I'm interested in 1 shilling KGV issues from the commonwealth.

Tempting though it is to leave it at that, it wouldn't give a fair picture, so I'll expand that out to world-wide up to about 1952, or so, especially colonies and small states. Back-of-the-book and revenues are fine by me. Interesting cancels are a plus. Overprints are a definite plus.

I've spent time looking at several online sites, and this one seems to be a good combination of low drama and good information/interaction. Plus, I recognize several names of great people that I've done some business with.

Anyway, that's enough for now.

Welcome Cjd..your id sounds very familiar...thanks for telling us about yourself..you plan to specialize in King George 5 1 shilling stamps and expand to other areas..sounds like a wise choice !! I am sure you have knowledge to contribute here...there are newcomers and just all around folks who are interested in learning and hearing about stamps..hope you become a regular !! Phil

My god, 1/- issues from KGV. An expensive, and absorbing past time. Does this include essays and proofs? Does it include type I and II of the keyplates, every shade of green back (emeralds and olives etc)? If so you have a huge task. Frankly I am jealous. The 1/- is not common like the 1/2d to 2 1/2d issues which go on for ever in the varieties, but not as expensive as the 2/6d etc which can be ultra expensive (thinking of such items as the Rhodesian Double Heads). You could have gone for the 6d value, of which there are about the same amount of issues, with little difference in price, and I wonder why the choice of the shilling?

The King George V issues have always intrigued me. Very detailed stamps. Classics. I had a KGV Bermuda once years ago but it's gone now.

Thanks to all for the welcoming words.

Although all sorts of interesting things catch my eye, if I'm checking out a new source, whether online or in person, I usually start with the British Commonwealth offerings, and there I'm going to be primarily interested in the 4 kings era (1902-1952). Out of those, KGV stamps catch my eye more often than others, and I like the various permutations of green and black together. So, I end up with a disproportionate number of KGV 1 shilling stamps. After I noticed that, it started being a little more intentional. I don't lie awake at night fretting about missing any particular emerald and black variety (but I might casually keep my eye out for it).

Thanks for the explanation. I am of the opinion that there are more shades of the olive back variety than Gibbons lists, or maybe it is just age.
