Greetings And Salutations

Hello all, I am sort of new to stamp collecting. I inherited my grandparents' stamp and coin collection six years ago and I finally started to research it last year. My background is in history and museum studies but I am not very good at identifying stamps...yet.

My collection spans the years from 1890's to the 1970's. Most are US stamps. Several are Internal Revenue stamps, Airmail Stamps, and postage due stamps. Right now I think my favorites are a block of '27 Lindbergh Airmails and a 1909 Last Emperor of China stamp.

I believe the thing I love most about these stamps is the memories of traveling to the Lucky Penny coin & stamp store practically every day in the summer with my grandparents. Now I'm 40ish with kids of my own that are showing an interest in these stamps and coins as well. They are a great teaching tool.

I'm hoping to learn from all of you and thank you for allowing me into your community.

Your stories reminded me of why I first started collecting when I was young. I remember seeing an add in a comic book that offered 1000 stamps for $1.00. We didn't have much money when I was growing so I thought this was a great deal and sent away for it.

I started to babysit when I was 11 making 25Cents an hour and saved up enough for an album and some hinges.

I kept ordering more stamps and soon had learned how to recognise the different countries. This is what peaked my interest in History and Geography. I aced those courses..

Thank you for the welcomes. I'm going to be floating around the forum today to see what my brain can soak in. I've been wrestling with the perforation issue lately. I haven't found a perf. tool that I like yet and my eyes aren't what they used to be.

Great forum and family here. We love to ask (and answer) questions about everything to do with stamps.

You can search the forum to look for topics that were discussed and find out lots.

I find the more you know the more you realize you don't know. But it is all good. All interesting.

My grandmother started me on my stamp collection many years ago.

Welcome to the family! Enjoy your memories and collection. Sounds like you have a great heirloom to pass down thru the generations.

BTW,
I also like those Lindbergh stamps, I even have a tie with them on it. Plus, I started looking into an airstrip he helped build around 1927 and was named after him in my town for the Airmail runs between St Louis and Chicago. Even Amelia Earnhart landed at Lindbergh Field in Springfield IL before she was lost to the winds of time in the 1930's.
