I don't have many US ones but have a fair collection of the Canadian counterparts. Some of those are quite long too. With revenues in general, I particularly like the engraved issues.
Wow, you have some really nice examples there, revstampman! I have a couple of these in my revenues album, but they are nowhere near as nice as these are. I feel jealousy setting in...
I wonder who saved these back in the day? Revenue stamps are/were so ephemeral, who would have saved them? I suppose tobacco was a common product, along with playing cards. But still... think about how many revenue stamps exist compared to stamp collectors around when they were issued.
Such nice engraving on such a nasty habit (yes I'm a smoker) Those compared to the canadian are exceptional. Canada just came out with a duty paid type stamp on some of the cigarettes sold now. There is a massive from reserves tobacco black market that is being cracked down on . For example since no duties or taxes need be paid a carton of "premium" name brand can be purchased on reserve for just over 1/2 of regular retail. Get caught with said carton and not be a certified with Indian/ aboriginal status and the fine is $600 per carton. Now that would make me quit. I think Mona and I shared a couple of those back in the day ! Now ya all know where she got that goofy smile.
