I just read that the new penny design will be officially released in Springfield IL at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Musuem (ALPLM)! This could still be considered a Bicentennial event because he wouldn't turn 201 until the 12th. I will be attending the ceremony, so hopefully there will be a program, which I will have postmarked in addition to any rolls of pennies I purchase. Since there was a pictorial postmark for each of the designs released last year, there should be a postmark for this one also. I may have to come up with a cachet or a new Springpatch Local Post stamp for the event and/or his 201st birthday. I can't wait to add new items to my Lincoln collection.

Stamperdude:

I know they already did 4 new pennies. Is this the one with a sort of shield on the back?

Obviously, I'm not a coin collector

Harry,
Are you wanting a Springpatch Local Post cover or the new Lincoln cent?

Kirk,
Yes they went with a 13 striped shield for the reverse. There were 12 designs submitted for this coin. I am not sure if te fronts Lincoln profile is changing from the prior releases.

I believe the obverse (front) remains the same. The new shield design on the reverse will be used for the foreseeable future.
Dude, if you get some extras, I wouldn't mind getting one for my collection. I have nearly the complete set of Lincolns, so I wouldn't want to miss that one.

I'll withhold judgment until I see it in "copper." Right now I think it has a sort of comic-book superhero look to it, as if the Justice League of America minted coinage.

I came up with a cachet to use to commemorate the event tomorrow. I still haven't found out if there is going to be a pictorial postmark tomorrow like last year's penny releases. They fit perfectly on the full rolls.

Harry,
I have your cover printed off and addressed. Now I just need to determine what stamp(s) to place on it to send it over the ocean.

The ceremony was good today. The director of the US Mint was there. There was only speeches for about half an hour. I was able to get my pennies and ceremony program.

Nuggethill- your cover was mailed today. I hope you like it.

I was only going to stand in line once and the maximum amount of rolls was 6 per person and I'm keeping them for myself. I did confirm that there is a special event postmark available and I will be getting my rolls canceled for my Lincoln topical collection.
