Maybe everyone else already knows about this, but I've never paid any attention to blogs of any sort so it's news to me. Family member scb from Finland mentioned this blog in another thread. I looked at it and thought it was important enough to put in the spotlight. Check this out if you haven't: http://www.stampcollectingblog.com/Just great! It's not like I needed another way to cheat my employer out of my time by hanging out and stamping on the Internet all day.

Do NOT go to this blog! I thought I would just go take a quick look. Next thing I knew, several hours of my life were gone. Just kidding; it's a great site, SCB. Very informative and also visually nice -- it doesn't look like so many of the "cookie-cutter" blogs I've seen. Thanks for your hard work, Kirk |

Quote: ..mixed martial arts ???? Actually it's the key part of my supposedly easy "iq test". LOL. Quote: Ok I went to the stamp collecting blog..spilled my guts..waiting for admin approval ! Is it a bad sign that it took me three tries to get the quiz answer right so I could post? |

I enjoyed the site as well...the DDR info and CTO info was much appreciated.
Is there blog software that makes building a site like that easy (not that I'm going to build another stamp blog)? I like how you have an index of entries by topic.

Yes Quannah. Two FREE sites are blogger.com and wordpress.com. Both are simple and user-friendly. Blogger is a probably a little easier for the absolute beginner; Wordpress is more feature-rich; e.g. those topic "clouds" (indices) are automatically generated. KirkS [Edit to fix URL, org-->com] |

Quote: Is it a bad sign that it took me three tries to get the quiz answer right so I could post? Well, I hope that the solution is better than the "industry standard" (CAPTCHA-boxes, see image below). They are something I never seem to manage at first attempt. LOL Quote: Is there blog software that makes building a site like that easy WordPress is IMHO highly recommendable... It's available in several "editions": * http://wordpress.com/ is for those who just want to write stuff online and not worry about the tech part. It's equally simple to using online email. Just sign up, start typing and hit the publish button. And it has lots of "goodies" to play with pre-installed. * http://wordpress.org/ is the actual software behind wordpress.com (and my blog as well). This is something anyone with proper tech knowhow can install and modify to suite their neets. It's a bit more complicated to set up, but usage (=writing stuff) is equally simple. And there are lots of alternatives like Blogger, Typepad etc. |

SCB: Thanks for the clarification on Wordpress. I meant to put .COM on that URL; both are in my bookmarks, so I guess I accidentally hit .ORG I agree that Wordpress is preferable to Blogger. I started a blog before Christmas, ran it on Blogger for about a month, then killed the whole thing and moved it to Wordpress -- should have started there in the first place, I guess KirkS |

I recently moved my static website to a new Wordpress.org format. It took me about a week of hard work to complete this task.
I join others above in recommending Wordpress.org software for people with some technical skills and interest in website development. It is database-backed software that runs on Apache server. There are many cheap website hosting alternatives on the internet. |
