Found this stamp among some other miscellaneous ones. From my internet searching, it appears to be from "White Russia"? Unfortunately the picture doesn't do it justice. It's real nice dark blue--Appears to have been hinged before, but never canceled. I love finding little gems among the larger mass. Haven't even begun to sorting the other miscellaneous stamps that have been amassing for the past MANY years. Hope I find some more gems like this.

When I looked up "White Russia" they mentioned present day Belarus. Don't know how old or young this stamp is. More research should tell me that. Since countries can change names over time as well as be divided up, I would like to find out when this stamp was issued. |

Interesting...I have a few misc stock pages with items like that (including the 15k imperforate and 10k perferated issues of the same picture). I have been looking them up one-by-one....takes some time. I need to process "TYPKECTAH" next...it's Turkestan. sites like this: http://www.bait-tov.com/idx.php?Fra...hp?Code=4182 make the process easier and educational. I'm just not sure what to do with the non-Scott listed items (Crete Revolutionary Group from 1905 as an example which is just in Stanley Gibbons (R9) and thus not on Stiener pages. I guess I will either make a page and add to the country or keep in a stock book... For some countries I have a Scott stock page made from a Scott Specialty page to fit at the back of my album. I put misc cinceralla and unlisted on them so I have the stamps in the country/region album. |

This is one of a series of stamps issued by the military administration of White Russia (byeli means "white", hence "Byelorussia") during the Russian Civil War (1918-1921 or so -- the military administration of this area lasted well into the 1920's). BTW this was an administration that was native to the area, not governed from Moscow, so these are technically not "Russian" stamps. There is also debate about the valid postal use of these stamps, and some call them private printings. Forgeries are numerous.
The inscription reads "Asobni Atrad" and "B.N.R.", which means "Special Troop" and "Byelorussian People's Republic" The denomination is 50 kopeks

I have a few others of these types of "stamps" from different places. Will probably just keep them in the back of my book on their own page. Thanks all of you for your information. I am far more knowledgeable now than when I first joined SCF. Back to sorting |

At one time Scott seems to have recognized these stamps since Scott included a page for them in their International Junior and then in their International Part I when the Junior edition was renamed. In later editions of Part I, however, the page no longer appeared in the album. (Yes, I have gone through a lot of International Juniors and Part I's in building my collection. My Part I has a 1955 copyright -- picked it up unused in 2003 -- and by then, the page was no longer included.) |

the link says that stamp is a 5 rouble stamp, but it shows 50, 5 with an extra zero, is that the norm? so a 10 Rouble would show on the stamp 100? please bear with the question, just curious, thanks! |

It's a minor error on that website. There are some errors and typos on that website.
That line that says "the 5 [rouble]" should read "the 5 [kopecks]"
The stamp shown is 50 kopecks, not 5 kopecks.
The line that says "5, 120, 15, 50k and 1r" should read "5, 10, 15, 50k, and 1r"
and so forth... |
