
You got my attention. I thought I had an old thread that was resurrected. The answer is Yes. The Eastern terminus is Chicago IL and the Western terminus was Los Angeles CA. Most 66'ers feel the ends are unofficially Navy Pier at the shore of Michigan Lake and Santa Monica Pier at the shore of the Pacific Ocean.

Yes, Interstates 40 and 55 officially replaced much of Highway 66. It had begun to be bypassed completely in 1977 in IL and the last section was officially decommissioned in 1984. You can still drive around 90-95% of the roadbed today.
