Has anyone purchased this? Is it a good buy? This is advertised in Linn's. One pound trash and treasure for $30. I purchased a Gold Treasure Chest of Africa from Champion Stamp Co. With shipping it cost $200. All stamps were in glassiness and identified. Total catalogue value was about $1,000. So I paid 20% of catalogue. I also purchased a pre 1940 Foreign lot from Stamps International it cost $200 also. Most of the stamps came on stamp pages. I haven't gone through it all but the ones I have most are .20 catalogue value. The pages are Luxembourg officials and Postage Due Stamps. Macao, Estonia, Eritrea, Cyprus, China, British India, Paraguay (7 pages), Surinam (4 pages) regular issues and Romania (2 pages mint semi-postals). There are some dealer cards that have about $100 catalogue value. This purchase I won't know if I got a good deal until I start mounting them. Then I will come up with their value. I thank the Champion Stamps were a good value and might order from them again.

trash and treasure

I think that says it all. It could be either one depending on how you feel. If it was stuff you needed then 20% of catalog wasn't bad at all.

At a minimum, it sounds like you had a good time and were satisfied. To me, that makes it a good deal.

Maybe my post wasn't very clear. I did not buy a haystack. Those stamp purchases I made were from other dealers. I am just wondering if The Haystack is a good purchase. By that I mean not much duplication or damaged stamps and worth $30.

I purchased a "haystack" sometime ago and was quite pleased with it. But, I must say some others Have not been. I seem to recall Linn's mystery reviewer was less then impressed. Personal opinion and in keeping with your stated criteria, I believe the $30.00 value is there and I would reorder. Good luck.

I've considered ordering the Haystack, too! Thanks for the input, Craig.

I've never bought Kiloware, but Kitchen Table Philately is my favorite regular Linn's column.

Not sure what that means, but it makes me nervous
