We've had a lot of threads about the horrible things that happen with machine cancels. I guess it's inevitable that one or two have to make it through in good condition.

Here's a postcard I received from iHobb reminding me it's time to order supplements for Scott National.

Obviously, someone at iHobb was creative with placement of the LOVE stamp. But, am I correct to assume the cancellation was done by USPS and not by iHobb?

By the way, I don't use a Scott National?

The machine cancel was done by the USPS. There are still a few in service across the U.S. Lucky you got one!

Thanks David.

It's ironic isn't it. It couldn't have been done better if you'd done it by hand. Yet so many pieces get mangled.

Kirk:

I think part of the "thrill" of collecting postally used stamps, is that you save the "survivors". All the others got ripped, torn, & mangled in the process of moving through the mailstream.

Saving the 'survivors' is a good phrase for collecting postally used stamps. I love exceptional examples of postally used material but I'm not willing to wait for them and will select a mint or even CTO example above a pathetic or mediocre postally used stamp.
